During the quake, tremors could be felt in most parts of Shanghai as well as in neighboring regions including Kunshan city, Jiangsu province and Jiaxing city, Zhejiang province.

The last time Shanghai was hit by an earthquake was April 2, 2012, when a minor tremor measuring 1.2 magnitude shook Minhang district.

The Shanghai Seismological Bureau has assured the public that the recent seismic activity falls within "the scope of normal crustal energy release" and does not pose a significant threat to the region. Monitoring efforts will continue to ensure the safety of affected areas.
