The planned water usage restriction for the Kanto area has been temporarily suspended, officials said Tuesday.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said that its plan to cut water provision by 10% for October and November has been put on hold due to good rainfall on Sept 22 and 23, TV Asahi reported. The rain has replenished water levels to 42% in the Tonegawa system's eight dams, around half of the average level for this time of year, a ministry spokesperson said.
A spokesperson for the Saitama prefectural government said, "We are watching the water levels closely, but unless there is an improvement in the situation, water usage restrictions in the future are not out of the question."
