WA roads department hunts for a new IT chief

Western Australia’s main roads department is on the lookout for a new chief information officer to lead the agency through what it describes as an “exciting period of change”.
It is offering an “attractive remuneration package” and a five-year senior executive service contract to the successful candidate, who will work from the agency’s Perth offices.
The new CIO will be responsible for “transforming governance arrangements in order to better service WA Main Roads’ business needs".
“The chief information officer will lead ICT reform and direct the development and implementation of the information and communications technology strategy to enable and support the achievement of Main Roads business goals and services,” according to the job ad.
The last person to have filled the role appears to be Geoff Wilson, who according to his LinkedIn profile was with the agency since 1999.
His replacement will oversee 44 direct reports, including a chief technology officer. The new CIO will also have to find ways to deliver savings of $7.3 million over the next four years under the state’s $110 million IT efficiency scheme announced in the 2015 budget.
WA Main Roads outsourced its infrastructure services to Empired in 2008. The current deal is worth $50 million and will run until October 2018.
