NSW FACS signs Accenture in $54m cloud ERP deal

NSW’s Family and Community Services department has closed a $54 million deal with Accenture to migrate the agency to a cloud-based ERP and support the platform until 2024.
The project will see the FACS cluster - which includes the state’s community welfare, housing and aged care functions, and employs roughly 17,000 staff - migrated onto a cloud-based version of the SAP ERP platform.
FACS is currently on SAP ECC V.6.
Accenture will “implement and provide SAP-as-a-Sservice to FACS and maintain the FACS legacy environment until the environment is no longer required,” the department’s CIO Tim Hume told iTnews.
The new system will be hosted out of the state’s GovDC data centres, located in Silverwater and Unanderra, adding to FACS’ ongoing migration out of its current primary facility inside Global Switch Ultimo and its secondary Fujitsu facility at Homebush Bay.
All major NSW government departments are required to transition to GovDC by August 30 2017.
The department needs more flexibility as it deals with dramatic reforms of the community services and disability sector under the national disability insurance scheme (NDIS) reforms.
Last September Hume said the NDIS was one of the major drivers behind the ERP upgrade.
The project - dubbed ‘OneSAP’ - is due to be completed at the end of 2016, a date that appears to have been pushed back from the February/March go-live forecast by Hume when he opened the procurement last year.
The $54 million Accenture deal does not cover the cost of SAP licences, which FAC is acquiring itself.
